The French retailer will be a compelling ally in the Olympic adventure. With
operations in 29 countries and a turnover of EUR 86 billion (87% of which is carried
out in Europe), it ranks second in the world amongst retail distributors.
As part of Paris 2012’s Corporate Club, Carrefour will join 10 other players
of international dimension: Accor, Bouygues, Crédit Agricole, EDF, France Télécom,
Lagardère, RATP, Renault, Suez and VediorBis.
Daniel Bernard, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Carrefour, explained
his desire to step up and join Paris: "The Olympic Flame stirs the spirit of competition
and teamwork in all of us. So it was natural that Carrefour should support the
bid that France and Paris are making to fulfil their Olympic aspirations".
Arnaud Lagardère, President of the Corporate Club, is delighted with this newcomer:
"We now have 11 of the largest French companies making not only a financial contribution
that will amount to over EUR 15 million, but most importantly bringing their technical
and technological expertise to the Bid book". The next planned goal: "to rally
France’s SMEs so they can express, by our side, their determination to win".
