In travelling to Marseilles, Bertrand Delanoë’s message was precise and determinated:
“I am here to tell the people of Marseilles: we need you! This Bid belongs to
all of France, and Marseilles makes Marseilles represents a huge asset for Paris
Jean-Claude Gaudin reinforced this enthusiasm when claiming: “This Bid is a fantastic
challenge and Marseilles could not let Paris take it up alone […]. The Velodrome
Stadium will be ready to come ablaze!”. If Paris is selected Host City on 6 July
2005, Marseilles will host the Football events in its mythical stadium.
The City of Marseilles, partnered by its football club, Olympique de Marseilles,
has devised an operation to rally the population, with, in the coming weeks:
- A billboard campaign with for slogan “Marseilles/Paris 2012: The Games to Descend on Velodrome Stadium”,
- At the Premier League match between OM and Bastia, the kick-off will feature Olympic medallists just back
from Athens and past Olympic Champions from Marseilles, on 2 September,
- Pre-match banners featuring the Bid, produced by Marseilles supporters.
This visit to Marseilles is one in a series of trips that the Committee will
carry out to cities part of Paris 2012’s Bid project. Next on schedule: La Rochelle,
on 16 July, when participants in the Tour de France Sailing Competition will close
in on the city. The Ile-de-France Region’s boat, which is taking part in the competition,
will be dressed in Paris 2012’s colours.
