Effervescent Paris

The Capital prepares for a crucial stage in the race to organise the Games in 2012: the Evaluation Commission visit of the IOC, from March 8 to 13. The entire city shines with the colours of Paris 2012. L'Amour des Jeux is visible in the streets and on the walls of Paris.

"The atmosphere in Paris is electric: the City looks fantastic: it has proven that the Olympic spirit is alive and well here and looking forward to sharing L'Amour des Jeux with the IOC Evaluation Commission".  This is how French IOC member and Olympic champion, Guy Drut, described the ambiance in Paris during the past couple of days.

Actually, in the lead up to the Commission's arrival, a new step has been reached to decorate the buildings to show backing for the Paris 2012 project.  Thus, 3 500 posters with messages of support for the candidacy already adorn the streets, patisseries, shops, bars and Parisian cafes.

The Evaluation Commission, comprising 14 members and overseen by the Moroccan Olympic Champion Nawal El-Moutawakel, will scrupulously examine the file presented by Paris 2012. From the Northern Cluster to the Western Cluster, not forgetting the other emblematic places like the Olympic Village, the group will inspect the different venues that make up the French project.

Paris constitutes for the Evaluation Commission, the fourth stop in the tour of all 2012 bid candidate cities.  After Madrid, London, New York, and Paris, the IOC delegation will finish their inspections in Moscow.  A report on every city will be published at the end of May/beginning of June 2005, one month before the election of the city to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games of 2012, on 6 July 2005 in Singapore.

During the French visit, the Paris 2012 internet site will follow the Evaluation Commission tour.  Throughout the day, information and pictures will be posted on-line to provide a complete account of this Paris 2012 Bid visit.
