"The atmosphere in Paris is electric: the City looks fantastic: it has proven that the Olympic spirit is alive and
well here and looking forward to sharing L'Amour des Jeux with the IOC Evaluation
Commission". This is how French IOC member and Olympic champion, Guy Drut, described
the ambiance in Paris during the past couple of days.
Actually, in the lead up to the Commission's arrival, a new step has been reached to decorate the buildings to show backing
for the Paris 2012 project. Thus, 3 500 posters with messages of support for
the candidacy already adorn the streets, patisseries, shops, bars and Parisian
The Evaluation Commission, comprising 14 members and overseen by the Moroccan Olympic Champion Nawal El-Moutawakel, will scrupulously
examine the file presented by Paris 2012. From the Northern Cluster to the Western
Cluster, not forgetting the other emblematic places like the Olympic Village,
the group will inspect the different venues that make up the French project.
Paris constitutes for the Evaluation Commission, the fourth stop in the tour of all 2012 bid candidate cities. After
Madrid, London, New York, and Paris, the IOC delegation will finish their inspections
in Moscow. A report on every city will be published at the end of May/beginning
of June 2005, one month before the election of the city to host the Olympic and
Paralympic Games of 2012, on 6 July 2005 in Singapore.
