Venues with a View

The second day in Paris for the IOC Evaluation Commission is dedicated to the visit of the existing competition venues of the Paris 2012 project. From the North to the West of the capital, the members of the delegation discovered for themselves the Paris 2012 concept, “One Village, two Clusters”.

From the Eiffel Tower's 2nd floor , B. Delanoë, N. El-Moutawatel and J.-F. Lamour could locate the Northern and Western Clusters of Paris 2012.

After theory, comes practice… Indeed, after the studious work sessions and the various questions asked on the candidature file on Wednesday, the Evaluation Commission members travelled through the capital in a bus dressed to the colours of Paris 2012.

First stop: the Batignolles district, in the North-Western part of Paris. The delegation was able to discover the selected site for the future Olympic Village and its Olympic Landmark, erected since 1 March.

The Commission members were then driven to their next destination: the North of Paris to the heart of the Northern Cluster of the Paris 2012 project. The Stade de France, renamed yesterday "Stade de France Paris 2012" in support to the bid, opened its doors to the delegation.

The World Champion Women's team relay 4x100 metres (Christine Arron, Muriel Hurtis, Sylviane Félix and Patricia Girard) and the Olympic bronze medallist, Véronique Mang, were on site to welcome the Evaluation Commission members, and accompany them on their Stadium tour.

After lunch at the Stade de France Paris 2012, the Olympic delegation members made their way to the West of Paris, where the Western Cluster concept, particularly venues such as the Roland-Garros Stadium and the Croix Catelan, was presented to them.

Last stop of the Olympic journey: the Eiffel Tower. From the second floor, the Commission could admire the view of Paris and locate the Northern and Western Cluster. The delegation also allowed itself a moment of rest before coming down and returning to their hotel by bus.
