Marcel Desailly has today confirmed his support for the Paris Bid to host the
2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. He also denied reports from London today stating
that he was considering becoming an Ambassador for London2012.
Desailly commented on the matter today just before boarding a plane for Portugal
for the start of Euro 2004: “As a Frenchman I will always support a French Bid.
I think the Olympics would be great not only for Paris but also for the whole
of France”.
Desailly and all his teammates in the French National Football squad signed an
agreement to support the Paris 2012 Bid in February 2004.
Philippe Baudillon, Chief Executive Officer of Paris 2012 commented: “We are
delighted that Marcel has reconfirmed his support for Paris 2012. In fact we are
fortunate enough to have the signed support of all the French Squad in Portugal.
They have pledged to act as Ambassadors of our Bid in some shape or form”.
Gérard Enault, Director General of the French Football Federation said today:
“Marcel has committed his support to Paris 2012 and has no intention of representing
any other Bid. He has spoken with Sebastian Coe on a number of matters and has
agreed to work only on some good will projects.”
