Dominique de Villepin, Minister of Interior, Internal Security and Local Rights, submitted yesterday to the IOC Evaluation
Commission, headed by Nawal El-Moutawakel, the French plan for the security of
the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012,should Paris be selected host city. Mr.
de Villepin affirmed that France is prepared to host the Olympic and Paralympic
Games of 2012.
In his presentation, Mr. de Villepin detailed that France has the required capability, manpower and extensive experience so
that all athletes, participants and visitors can take part in this celebration
in a completely safe environment. Key elements of the Paris 2012 security plan
include:
Well-defined chain of command
- The safety of all venues is placed under the authority of the Prefect (Chief)
of Police.
- The safety of each Olympic and Paralympic venue, in the Region Ile-de-France
or in other designated areas, is allocated to the Prefect of the local region.
Available resources
- Mobilization on a 24/7 schedule of 41,000 civil and military officers and military
personnel, 3,200 firemen and 2,500 first aid workers.
Acknowledged for the organization of international sporting events and as one
of the key tourist destinations in the world
- France will ensure entry of athletes and spectators with the creation of a
special visa, the "carte de séjour Olympique" (Olympic residence permit).
Extensive experience in all aspects of safety, including terrorist threats, for which France can rely on its expertise and
the continuous vigilance.
