Yorgos Orfanos, the Greek Minister of Sport, who is currently in Paris to attend the Conference of the Youth and Sport Ministers of French-speaking Countries, met with Philippe Baudillon, the CEO of Paris 2012, today.
During the meeting at the Paris 2012 office, Philippe Baudillon described to his guest the Paris 2012 concept “One Village, Two Clusters”, which is at the heart of Paris’s Bid to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012. They discussed the success of the Athens Games in 2004, including the overwhelming popular support offered by the Athenians and the outstanding management of the volunteer program by the Greek Organization Committee, which provided inspiration for Paris 2012.
Mr. Baudillon told Mr. Orfanos that three experts from the Athens Games Organization Committee were now working for Paris 2012, within the areas of Transport, Marketing and Communications, providing their experience and insights towards the further development of the French candidature.
Concluding the meeting, Philippe Baudillon declared: “By organizing the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Athens in 2004, Greece offered the world a rare emotional moment. The long-awaited return of the Games to their homeland will mark the Olympic movement forever. The Games were a success and serves as a model for Paris 2012, which aspires to follow in their footsteps. We had the benefit of being in Athens before and during the 2004 Olympic and Paralympic Games and we observed with great interest the work of the Organization Committee.”
Yorgos Orfanos declared: “In Paris I saw the overwhelming popular support that Paris 2012 enjoys, and I have truly been charmed by this “Amour des Jeux” that we feel here in France. Paris 2012’s concept is a very beautiful project that honors the Olympic values. I have wished good luck to Philippe Baudillon and to the entire Paris 2012 team for the IOC’s decisive vote which will elect, on July 6th, the host city of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012. I hope that Paris will enjoy the experience to the same degree that we did in Athens.”
