Heading to SportAccord in Berlin, Paris 2012 Deputy CEO Essar Gabriel reaffirmed that all the necessary ingredients
for a memorable Olympic experience are built into Paris 2012’s unique Olympic
design.
"The ‘One Village, Two Clusters’ concept at the gates of Paris is a compact and human approach. All our thoughts have
been guided by two major objectives: guarantee the efficient organization of the
Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris in 2012, while pushing the Olympic experience
to its maximum, for both the athletes and spectators," he said.
"As such, each of the two Clusters of competition venues constitutes an ‘Olympic Park’ of its own, with a truly distinctive environment
and atmosphere."
The Northern Cluster is resolutely innovative as it puts Olympic venues at the heart of an already existing urban fabric.
A permanent 9 hectare park will be created at its heart as part of a longterm
urban renewal project. During the Games, this park will provide a lively entertainment
zone shared by five temporary sports pavilions. The dynamic façades of the pavilions
will delineate the park, and enhance the festive atmosphere.
The Western Cluster is centered on the spectacular 860 hectare Bois de Boulogne green park. Spectators will
be free to stroll from one venue to the other through spacious parklands and
waterways, expanding the Olympic experience beyond the competition itself.
"The heart of Paris itself will be dedicated to Olympic celebrations. Cultural events will resonate with imagination, spirit
and humour, and will create a vibrant and magical atmosphere of emotion, complicity
and fraternity. Embracing the universal spirit of celebration of Olympism, culture
and sport, Paris 2012, with its atmosphere-oriented approach, will provide visitors
and Parisians alike with a once-in-a-lifetime experience", concluded Essar Gabriel. |
