The Executive Committee of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has selected the French Federation of Football to host the Champions League Final in 2006 at the Stade de France Paris 2012. The announcement was made on April 19 in Tallinn, Estonia. For the second time in its history, the iconic Stadium will host one the most significant and widely-anticipated annual football events in Europe.

The Stade de France Paris 2012 entered into world sports history in the very first year of its existence, when, in 1998, it hosted the FIFA World Cup Finals, including an unforgettable victory of Les Bleus, the French National Football Team, over Brazil. The Stadium has also played host to the Champions League Final in 2000, the IAAF World Championships in 2003, and will welcome the IRB Rugby World Cup in 2007.

Pascal Simonin, Delegate General Director of the Stade de France Paris 2012 Consortium, declared: “We are delighted and proud that the Stade de France Paris 2012 has been chosen to host such a prestigious game. This is further evidence that the Stade de France Paris 2012 is one of the greatest sport arenas in the world. We also look forward to hosting more high-profile events in the future, which includes our ambition to serve as the Olympic Stadium in 2012, a role for which the Stade de France Paris 2012 was originally conceived.”
